Family Resources for Christmas
During December we will be taking a break from writing the Family Worship notes, so that you can spend some time looking forward to Christmas as a family.
We’re aware that some of you have things you like to do each Advent season – perhaps a Jesse Tree or Advent Calendar – and some of you would like to pick something up, or just try something new. Please find below a selection of resources that we hope will encourage you to reflect and rejoice this Christmas season with your family – whatever their age and whatever your capacity.
If you have a favourite – why not share in your Growth Group and encourage each other as we look forward to this special time of year.
Family Devotional Books
A Better Than Anything Christmas
This year’s Good Book offering of a family devotional with a couple of pages a day from Luke– questions, Bible readings and a space to do a “Family Journaling page”. It has tips and trick at the beginning and a list of helpful big words to chat through as you come across them.
A Jesus Christmas
Last year’s Family Devotional – with the same great mix of questions (some for older, some for younger kids) Family journaling pages and Bible readings from the whole sweep of the Bible.
For Toddlers / Preschoolers
Beginning with God at Christmas
A great little book (5 days) that goes alongside the Beginner’s Bible, with helpfully pitched questions and the ever-important sticker for each day!
Download this document of the verses we’ve used for the advent trail – or copy them out onto little cards. Hide one a day somewhere where your little ones will find it (in their jammies, under their plate, in a shoe etc), read it together and then thank God for Jesus!
Bake through the Bible at Christmas
12 Christmas Bible stories for young children with related cooking activities.
For Children
Jesus Storybook Bible Advent Guide
“Join in a journey of wonder through The Jesus Storybook Bible this advent as we trace the beautiful story of God’s great love for us–from the very beginnings of the universe, to the birth of the baby who would rescue the whole world.”
Jesse Tree
A series of readings through the Bible looking at stories from Jesus’ family tree. Each day has a tree ornament with a symbol on it and there are devotionals for both families and adults or teenagers.
Names of Jesus Advent Calendar
Turn a calendar card each day to reveal a different name or title of Jesus and peg it on a line of string. Use the calendar as a way for his truths to sink further into your life in the lead up to Christmas.
“Light in the Darkness” Graphic Novel
This resource introduces the biblical account of the first Christmas in a fresh way, powerfully capturing the joy, pain and emotion of Luke 1 and 2. Uses the NIV. For older children/teens
