Advent
Window trail
Throughout December
round S11 & S7
We’ve set up a life-size advent calendar round S7 and S11. View the map below and see how many of the window displays you can find. The houses are grouped in clusters, so even little legs can do a few at once. And in each window there will be a QR code you can scan as the Christmas story unfolds..
How to do the Advent Trail
The Advent Window Trail can be tackled however you like, there’s no right or wrong way to it! However, we suggest you take one of these three options to best enjoy your Advent Window Trailing with us at Christ Church Endcliffe this year.
1) You might choose to do only the Advent Window Trail essentials. These are six special windows, clustered together around our church building, which will give you the outline of what Christians celebrate at Christmas. Each special window is marked on the map by a golden star. This route is ideal for those with little legs, or should the weather be particularly foul for all of December. On the map, these windows are numbers 3, 6, 8, 11, 19 and 20. This route is just shy of 1½ miles, so we recommend you take 35 minutes to visit these windows.
2) For the second option, you may choose the break your journey up into larger, but still manageable, chunks. This is ideal if you fancy dipping in and out of the whole Advent Window Trail throughout December as you please, and thus gaining a bigger Christmas experience! The windows are roughly arranged in different arms coming from the cluster around our church building (window numbers 3, 6, 8 and 11).
a. The first arm reaches out into Greystones. This consists of windows 1, 2, 4 and 5. This should take you roughly 30 minutes. We recommend you complete this in numerical order, heading into the hub.
b. The second arm goes up towards Banner Cross and consists of two clumps. 7, 9, 10 and 12, being closest to the cluster around church; and 22, 23 and 24 being a little further out on Bannerdale Road. This section is just over a mile long, but with steep hills we recommend you take 35 minutes to complete this arm.
c. The third arm heads east into Sharrow. It consists of windows 13 to 21. This spoke is 1¾ miles in length from the hub, but is relatively flat. We estimate it will take 50 minutes to reach the end.
3) Alternatively, for the die-hard hill walkers out there, you may choose to trail through all of the windows in one go! This challenge will take you across 5.5 miles of hilly Sheffield terrain with gradients peaking at 10%. For this, we recommend you take at least 2½ hours – or longer, if you want to stop and enjoy the windows! This is according to the route highlighted on the map above.
